ELKINS, W.Va. - eTravelWire -- The development of The Railyard Event and Conference Center in Elkins, West Virginia is well underway, marking an exciting milestone for Randolph County and the surrounding region. This 28,000-square-foot facility, spearheaded by the Randolph County Development Authority (RCDA), is poised to transform the area's tourism and economic potential.
Construction began in January 2025, with an official groundbreaking ceremony celebrated in April. Once completed in spring 2026, the multi-purpose facility will feature a performance theater, a state-of-the-art conference center, and a dedicated workspace for the Ascend Greater Elkins program. Positioned behind the Rotary Amphitheater at the Elkins Railyard Depot, the center will address a long-standing need for modern event and meeting spaces in the region.
"We know that in order for our tourism economy to succeed, it must grow," said Randolph County Development Authority Executive Director and state Senator Robbie Morris during the groundbreaking ceremony. "We know that people love Elkins, they love Randolph County, and we know that many groups and organizations would like to have conferences, conventions and other events in Elkins. We just haven't had the exact venue to meet their needs. The Railyard Event and Conference Center will solve that issue."

The center's development has been made possible through key support from several partner organizations, including, the U.S. Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, WV Water Development Authority, Randolph County Commission, City of Elkins, Ascend West Virginia, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Senator Jim Justice, Governor Patrick Morrisey, and the Region VII Planning & Development Council. The architecture and engineering services have been provided by The Thrasher Group, Allegheny Design Services, and Harper Engineering. The general contractor is Paramount Builders from St. Albans, West Virginia.
Upon completion, the facility will be managed by Taylor Hospitality, a leading hospitality and club management company. Taylor Hospitality's expertise will ensure a seamless visitor experience, aligning with the region's vision of becoming a premier destination for conferences, conventions, concerts, and shows.
By blending cutting-edge design with strategic partnerships, The Railyard Event and Conference Center represents a major investment in the future of Randolph County's tourism and economic landscape. Plans for a spring 2026 ribbon-cutting ceremony are already underway, marking the beginning of a new era for events and community engagement in Elkins
