The Stars of the Industry Awards are an annual event that acknowledges the efforts made by stand-out leaders in the Michigan hospitality industry. A plethora of awards are given throughout the night, highlighting the contributions of leaders in a diverse range of roles.
The highest recognition of the night, the Hospitality Star of the Year Award, was allocated to the C.O.O. of Bavarian Inn Lodge, Jim Engel. The Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association (MRLA) defines the Hospitality Star of the Year recipient as "a visionary owner or general manager who has maintained the highest standards of hospitality over the expanse of their career. An innovator who has continually sought to surpass expectations by mentoring rising peer stars and developing new practices that positively impact guest experience. Jacob Austin, Executive Chef at Bavarian Inn Restaurant, was also acknowledged for his strides in enhancing the Michigan Hospitality Industry as the first ever recipient of the Rising Star Award from the Michigan Hospitality Foundation. This award recognizes its recipients for their outstanding growth and impact on the hospitality industry. Austin's career began as a student in Prostart, a culinary program for high school students exploring a career in culinary arts and restaurant management. This program kick-started his career and empowered him to become Michigan's youngest executive chef at age 20. He remains involved in the program, making him the perfect candidate for the Rising Star Award.
