Florida Yacht Expert Urges Owners to Prepare Now for Hurricanes: "Don't Wait For A Named Storm."

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - eTravelWire -- With the peak of hurricane season approaching, longtime superyacht captain, engineer and licensed Florida brokerage owner Kevin St. Clair is urging yacht owners, especially those with vessels docked in Florida to take action now, not later. His warning comes with experience: St. Clair personally survived Hurricane Wilma in 2005 aboard a million-dollar yacht and helped protect two 70' luxury, private yachts through the storm without damage, despite widespread destruction.

St. Clair recently published a storm-readiness article titled "Learn How to Prepare Your Yacht for Hurricanes in Florida," which has quickly gained traction among yacht owners and marine professionals. The guide offers step-by-step insights based on real-world storm survival, not theory.

"Wilma outsmarted everyone. She intensified after leaving the Yucatán, then took a rare eastward turn no one expected. After putting the entire State of Florida between the yacht and Wilma's landfall, we ended up in the eye of the storm while other boats were thrown into trees," said Kevin St. Clair, founder of St. Clair Superyachts. "Preparation saved us. And I want other owners to benefit from the lessons we learned firsthand."

In the article, St. Clair outlines critical steps for protecting vessels including fuel considerations, haul-out timing, anchor strategies, and communication plans. He also invites Florida-based yacht owners to reach out directly for personalized tips based on their slip location, surrounding infrastructure, and vessel type.

St. Clair emphasized that storm readiness isn't a luxury—it's a responsibility. "If you've got a 60-foot motoryacht tied up in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, or Palm Beach, now is the time to double-check your plan. Don't wait until you're in the cone."

The article is available now on the St. Clair Superyachts website.
