PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 18, 2024 ~ Bicycle Transit Systems, Inc. (BTS) has announced its acquisition of BCycle from Trek, making it the only docked bike share company in North America with fully integrated end-to-end operations. This strategic move will allow BTS to expand its mobility options in cities nationwide and provide seamless solutions for building, installing, and managing docked, electrified bike share systems.

With this acquisition, BTS will now have the capability to offer improved real-time solutions to pressing equity, safety, and climate challenges. The company's new end-to-end services will also help reduce operating costs and enhance the overall customer experience for riders.

Currently, BTS operates bike share systems in major cities such as Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Las Vegas. It also provides full-service customer support for an additional 24 cities across the United States. After the acquisition is finalized in October, BTS will become the largest docked bike share provider in the country by number of communities served.

The acquisition includes ten BCycle-owned bike share systems in various communities across the U.S., including Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Madison, and Boulder. Additionally, BTS will take on bikes, docking stations, and software support for 15 other communities such as Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, Cincinnati, and Milwaukee.

By bringing all aspects of bike share under one company's umbrella, BTS can now deliver innovative and affordable solutions that meet cities' needs while advancing electrification efforts. This move also aligns with the company's core mission of providing a top-notch customer experience for riders and promoting bike share as a sustainable mobility option.

According to Alison Cohen, Founder and Chair of Bicycle Transit Systems: "With greater flexibility and oversight of end-to-end services, we can design real-time solutions to the pressing equity, safety, and climate challenges cities face today." She further added that this acquisition will allow them to better fulfill their mission as a company.

Kristin Gavin-Wisniewski, CEO of BTS, will continue to lead the company's executive team. BCycle Executive Director Brian Conger will also join the leadership team as Chief Business Officer.

Trek President John Burke expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating that BCycle has helped millions of people replace car trips with a more environmentally friendly option since its inception in 2008. He believes that BTS will take this mission even further and make a meaningful impact for the benefit of our planet and future generations.

With this acquisition, Bicycle Transit Systems is poised to become a major player in the bike share industry, offering comprehensive and sustainable solutions for cities across the country.
